Featured in this lot we have a Werndl-Holub model 1873 breechloading rifle with pearl inlayed stock and chambered in 11.15mm. The rifle was manufactured in by Werndl-Holub for the Austro-Hungarian army in 1867. The design was rechambered in 1877 from the 11mm scharfe Patrone M.67 to the M.77 cartridge. The rifle saw use in numerous civil wars and rebellions with some limited use in World War I, and following conflicts till the early 1920's. The rifle shows a 33 1/4" long round barrel, pearl inlayed walnut stock, breechloading system, steel trigger guard, and adjustable rear sight. The walnut stock has been decorated with inlayed carved pearl inlays in geometric patterns across the stock. The top of the barrel is marked with "W" stamps and faded other stamps with the lock plate dated "1877". Mechanically the rifle is non functioning and would need replacement parts to function. Overall the rifle shows fair condition with some wear and pitting across the barrel and the stock showing wear and some damage due to age and use. Serial Number: 2868C.
