Featured in this lot is Willie Mays autographed memorabilia including two baseballs and a book. Willie Howard Mays Jr., nicknamed "the Say Hey Kid", was an American professional baseball center fielder who played 23 seasons in Major League Baseball. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, Mays was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility and was named to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team. Both baseballs are in acrylic protective display cases. The regular sized baseball has the personalized inscription, "To David Best Wishes" along with the autograph, "Willie Mays". The second baseball is a mini genuine leather baseball intended for advanced hitting and fielding practice, sits in a Sports Products Corp. plastic display case. Along with the same personalized inscription and autograph, it also features the stamped, "OFFICIAL American League Ball William Harridge, Pres.". Harridge was president of the American League from 1931 until retirement in 1958, and then was named president emeritus. Willie Mays played his entire career in the National League. The book, "Willie Mays Most Valuable Player", by Julian May, was published at the end of Mays' career with San Francisco in 1971, and is a brief illustrated biography of the baseball star who spent most of his career with the Giants and was twice named Most Valuable Player. The same inscription and autograph are on the title page. Rear endpaper has three (3) unused 1982 USPS issued Roberto Clemente stamps attached.
