Winchester 1894 octagon rifle in rare and desirable .38-55 caliber, serial number 319028, made in 1906. The 1894 rifles of this early vintage were very popular with the Klondike gold seekers as well as with big game hunters on both sides of the Mississippi River. Many also found their way south of the border and played a major role in the Mexican Revolution as well as border skirmishes with Americans. This is an extremely high condition 1894 and an excellent example that displays fine deep blue on the barrel and magazine tube that shows only some light ageing on the 26” round barrel. As well, the receiver retains excellent original high polish blue on both side panels and bolt with the only wear to the high edges. The receiver also has excellent screw heads that are sharp as are all the original and correct Winchester markings on the barrel and upper tang. The rifle still retains the factory buckhorn rear sight along with the correct and original small blade Winchester factory front sight. The bore is somewhat dark and frosted with visible rifling and the action is very tight with a strong safety half-cock on the hammer. There is some case color remaining on the hammer and protected areas of the lever. The forend cap retains good lightly aged blue. The stock, with classic crescent butt plate, and forearm are also in excellent condition showing only light handling without any chips or cracks and show extremely tight wood to metal fit. This 120-year-old Winchester 1894 is in far better condition than normally encountered and is seldom seen in rare .38-55 caliber. A superb example. This rifle weighs 7lbs 8oz. Serial Number: 319028. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic firearm, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
