Featured in this lot we have a Winchester Model 70 bolt action hunting rifle chambered in .30-06 springfield. The Mod. 70 was largely based off of the Model 54, and was nicknamed "The Rifleman's Rifle". Additionally, the Mod.70 was coined as the "Bolt Action Rifle of the Century" by Shooting Times Magazine, in 1999. The Model 70 began production in 1936, with this example originating from 1952. This fine rifle utilizes cut-checkered texture on the walnut fore-grip and pistol grip. The rifle is marked in numerous places on the 23 1/2" blue'd barrel, reading; "Made in New Haven, Conn. U.S. of America Winchester Proof Steel - Winchester Trade Mark - Model 70 - 30-06 SPRG" with the receiver marked "Winchester Trade Mark". The rifle includes the original front sight, and adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight. Overall, the rifle shows very good mechanical condition, and good aesthetic condition. The walnut butt-stock and fore-grip shows some light wear from use, and transport. Serial Number: 217027. This is a modern firearm and requires a FFL transfer or NICS background check.
