Featured in this lot Wyatt Earp's 1st Wife Tintype & Cabinet Card Photographs, ca. 1870. Provenance: Tombstone Western Heritage Museum, Tombstone, Arizona. Wyatt Earp was a legendary America Old West gunslinger, gambler, and lawman in Dodge City, Kansas, Deadwood in Dakota Territory and Tombstone in Arizona Territory. Earp was involved in the gunfight at the O. K. Corral, during which lawmen, which included his brothers Morgan and Virgil as well as Doc Holliday, killed three outlaw Cochise County Cowboys on October 26, 1881. In late 1869 Earp courted 20-year-old Urilla Sutherland, daughter of William and Permelia Sutherland who operated the Exchange Hotel in Lamar, Missouri. They were married by Earp's father, the local constable, on January 10, 1870. Later that year Urilla was about to deliver their first child when she died from typhoid fever. The tintype profile portrait photo shows Urilla wearing a Victorian bonnet hat. The Cabinet card shows Urilla and her family, taken at C. R. Taylor's Photo Gallery in Lamar, Missouri. Both photographs are labeled respectively from the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum, "WYATT'S FIRST WIFE URILLA SUTHERLAND, 21 years old Died suddenly of Typhus while she was carrying their first child.", museum code, "E-53", and, "WYATT'S FIRST WIFE, URILLA, AND HER FAMILY", museum code on reverse, "E23". Both photographs are in preserved condition, age tanning and wear consistent with age and use. Tintype measures 2.5"W x 3.875"L, sleeve is 3.875"W x 6.125"L. Cabinet card measures 4.25"W x 6.5"L, sleeve is 6.25"W x 9.25"L. Combined weight is U6.
