Featured in this lot is this original, Apache Powder Company explosives box from the 1920s from Arizona. The Apache Powder Company was created in 1920 by a collection of Southwest mining businesses to minimize the excessive cost of explosives. Initially, they manufactured black powder-based explosives, but by the late 1920s, they had switched to nitroglycerin production. The company became a major supplier of dynamite in the Southwest United States before transitioning to ammonium nitrate goods in the 1940s. Nitroglycerin manufacture ended in 1983. The box is marked on all sides with the front and back reading, "I.C.C. 14 / High Explosives Dangerous / Manufactured By Apache Powder Co. / Curtiss, Ariz.". One side shows the Apache Powder Company logo, while the other is marked reading, "50 LBS 1 1/4 X8 / Apache 40% Low Freezing Gelatin". The box shows good condition overall with wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. It measures 11 7/8" L x 17 3/4" W x 7 3/4" H and weighs 4 pounds and 6 ounces. Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. M72
