This is a wonderful collection of 17th to 19th Century early exotic trade beads in a “Chief’s” strand. The strand features a large hammer Dutch copper trade gorget pendant with pierced and rounded holes and an engraved serrated edge. The Dutch trade copper gorget presentation pendant shows a wonderful original deep patina and displays well. The necklace shows sinew ties with a tanned hide leather strand having wonderful “Cornaline d'Aleppo” Hudson Bay Red Yellow Hearts, large polished heishe like shell beads in a disk or cylinder form (almost exactly if not from the Cahokia Mound builders of Mississippian culture), round “Cornaline d'Aleppo” having a semi-transparent red outer shell and opaque yellow “heart”, wonderful Dutch Cobalt oblong glass exotic glass trade beads of a large size, and more. The necklace also features three hand worked solid Dutch trade copper accents which are adorned with small fringe carrying five dentalium shells (considered to be number one wampum) with small wound glass red white heart pony beads and a sterling silver or copper/brass thimble. The necklace also shows two large oblong solid nickel silver brass trade beads. This is truly a wonderful circa 1700-1800’s set in fine condition on a later strand. Provenance: From the collection of Dr. David and Marsha Bowerly of Oregon. Measures overall 47” long circumference with the pendant being 6”L from the necklace and 5.25”W.
