The lot features a wonderful U.S. Civil War c. 1860’s Army Corps of Engineers two-part tongue and circle belt buckle on a early trade bead necklace (only the buckle portion is shown). The necklace is strung on a strand of sinew or waxed string and shows an excellent collection of 18th-19th Century glass trade beads such as Hudson Bay red white hearts having a semi-transparent outer red and opaque inner white “heart” wound glass pony beads, faceted cut glass Russian cobalt, white pony beads, pound beads and cylindrical stone beads. In addition to the solid brass or copper buckle which shows the three spire castle Army Corps of Engineers mark at the center, the necklace also features a Buffalo tooth, three sterling silver or brass/copper thimbles, two solid brass hawk bells and two U.S. Civil War uniform buttons. This is truly a fine collection and displays wonderfully. Provenance: From the collection of Dr. David and Marsha Bowerly of Oregon. Measures overall 28.5” circumference with the buckle pendant being 2”x2”.
