Smith & Co. for $108.00 in Tombstone, Arizona circa 1882. The Cochise County Bank, established in 1881 in Tombstone, Arizona, was one of the earliest financial institutions in the booming mining town. By 1882, it played a central role in managing the flow of silver wealth generated by the surrounding mines, offering services such as deposits, loans, and currency exchange. Located prominently on the corner of 4th and Allen Streets, the bank was a symbol of Tombstone’s prosperity and growing economic sophistication. Its operations were critical to supporting local businesses, mining companies, and the day-to-day transactions of the town’s rapidly growing population during the height of the silver boom. P.W. Smith & Co., operating in Tombstone around 1882, was a prominent merchant firm that supplied a wide range of goods essential to both the town’s residents and the surrounding mining operations. Located near the heart of Tombstone’s bustling commercial district, the company offered groceries, dry goods, and hardware, catering to the growing needs of a frontier boomtown. As Tombstone thrived during the height of the silver rush, firms like P.W. Smith & Co. played a vital role in sustaining daily life and commerce, helping transform the once-remote settlement into a well-stocked and modernized mining center.
