Horsehair braiding, in which horsehair is braided into functional pieces crafted with western decorations and designs, goes back to the late 1800s in penitentiary craft program throughout the western United States. Eventually, Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge became the best known, and the most prolific for horsehair goods. This quirt shows natural colors that grab your attention and direct them to the designs in blakc horsehair. Designs of, different diamonds and a swirling twisted rope design between the rows of diamond design braided up the core of the quirts shaft. Either end of the quirt ends with a tightly crafted Turk's Knot with a braided hand loop and braided leather falls ending the business end of the quirt. The measurements of this quirt are 27" long.
