The lot features a very rare original 19th century Frontiersman or Fur Trappers traveling case. The case is constructed of solid stout oak with exquisite brass hardware and dates to the 1800’s. The box features a wrapped lid and hammered case. Compartment cases would have been used by Frontiersmen, Gold-Seekers or Prospectors, Fur Traders and other characters of the early West in an effort to hide rare objects such as gold nuggets, jewelry and money. The case is wonderfully decorated with brass tacks and colorful cloth interior. The case measures 5” x 8” x 3 ½”.
