Featured in this lot is this G.D. Gage & Co., Prop's receipt for the lumber for the Halderman Brothers hanging circa 1900; Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. The receipt for lumber is presented on a scrap piece of ledger paper from an Epitaph print with figures up to $1200.00. The receipt comes complete with original museum tag that reads as follows: The only known receipt from this Stage Company. It has the calculations for the building of a scaffold to hand the Halderman Brothers - Only one known. The Shootout at Wilson Ranch resulted in the final and most famous hanging in the history of Tombstone, Arizona. On April 7, 1899, the brothers William and Thomas Lee Halderman were confronted by two lawmen at a ranch located in the Chiricahua Mountains. A brief gunfight ensued, during which Constable Chester L. Ainsworth was killed and his deputy, Teddy Moore, was mortally wounded. The Halderman brothers then fled to New Mexico, but they were captured shortly thereafter and executed on November 16, 1900, following a hasty trial in Tombstone. The condition of this receipt is well preserved condition with no obvious signs of damage with some browning to the pages consistent with age but otherwise shows a well preserved condition.
