Featured in this lot is this original desert landscape oil on canvas stretched on board painting by Gros Ventre artist White Crow circa 1951. The painting features a wonderfully and professionally crafted oil on canvas stretched on board construction that shows a desert landscape with butte's in the distance and a canyon leading up to them with sagebrush in the fore front of the painting. The artist signature is in the bottom right hand corner. The painting comes complete with a typed correspondence between a Mr. Kleinschmidt and a E.A. Brininstool that talks about research and book material surrounding Custer's Last Stand; they briefly mention White Crow and his occupation as a painter and his involvement with the US Military. The back of the painting is marked as follows: White Crow Gros Ventres Indian Artist - (Little Crow and his wife tell me he is a Gros Ventres) Aka Miles S Horn - 8/1/51. The condition of this Painting from Gros Ventres artist is good with no obvious signs of damage to the artwork and the frame shows some fading and chipping to the paint but otherwise is in good overall condition. The measurements of this framed painting is 12 1/2" x 16 1/2" and the visible artwork measures 9 1/2" x 13 1/2". The collective weight of this 1lb 4oz. The painting comes with a museum tag that reads as follows: 1396-87 - O'dell. Provenance: From the John Kleinschmidt collection which was on loan to the C.M. Russell Museum from 1987 to 1993 and included in the "The Cowboy West: 100 Years of Photography 1992-1993 exhibit.
