Featured in this lot is an Original WWI Liberty Loan War Bond Poster, "Clear The Way" by Howard Chandler Christy, circa 1918. Issued as part of the "Fourth Liberty Loan" in 1918, this poster features a monumental Lady Columbia, rising from the ocean before a billowing American flag and longingly staring out. Below her a heroic US Navy gun crew loads a torpedo into a cannon in the midst of naval battle action. This beautiful poster was issued to raise money through the fourth, and last, Liberty Loan program, an effort to support the Allied cause in Europe. The slogan, "CLEAR THE WAY" appears at the top, with "Buy Bonds, Fourth Liberty Loan" printed below along the left side. The "Victory Liberty Loan, issued 1919 after the war, was technically the last of the Liberty War Bonds. Christy was known for his iconic WW I military recruitment and Liberty Loan posters. Christy's name appears on the lower left side, "Forbes Boston" is printed at the center bottom. Forbes Lithograph Manufacturing Company produced lithography artwork from 1862 to 1960s. This colour war bond poster is in very nice condition, slight creases, stains and tears observed. Measures 20"W x 30"L approximately.
