The lot features a nice stamped CROCKETT silver mounted horse bit with an early antique to vintage age. Oscar Crockett (1887-1949) was born in Pecos City, Texas and learned to make bits and spurs by watching his older borther. Oscard worked in blacksmith shops and would partner up with George Gliem for a year or two before having his own shop in Oklahoma and then eventually working for C.P. Shipley. In 1920 Crockett bought Shipley's bit and spur making department and started the Crockett Bit and Spur Company. This example is stamped CROCKETT and shows silver mounting on both sides with domed cheek spot rosettes with beautiful hand engravings. Well kept bit that displays well. The bit shows large bridle rings and rein rings with large concho spot cheek piece with straight mouth piece having a "u" port and ridged cricket roller. Measures 9-inches long by 7-inches wide with the spots being 2 3/8-inches in diameter.
