Featured in this lot is a Twin Creek Gold Mine Orpiment Cut #20 North Zone geode. The geode features a Orpiment geode construction that shows yellow construction. Orpiment is a bright yellow to orange-yellow mineral composed of arsenic sulfide (As2S3). It forms in hydrothermal veins, volcanic hot springs, and as a sublimation product in volcanic fumaroles. Orpiment is often associated with realgar, another arsenic sulfide mineral, and it can occur in low-temperature hydrothermal environments or as a secondary mineral in ore deposits. The condition of this Orpiment rough cut geode is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this geode are 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 3 1/4". The collective weight of this geode is 1lb 12oz. Attention: Due to its arsenic content, orpiment is toxic and must be handled with care. Historically, it was used as a pigment in art and in traditional medicine, but its toxicity has limited its use in modern times.*
