For your consideration this lot includes Wyatt & Josephine Earp Personal Items, circa 1882 - 1929. Provenance: Tombstone Western Heritage Museum, Tombstone, Arizona. From the John H. Gilchriese estate collection. Items include theatre programs, tickets and business cards. Mrs. Wyatt Earp, Josephine Sarah Marcus Earp, fancied herself an actress. She loved the theatre and she and Wyatt attended every performance they could find. In later life, she told folks about her adventures in a drama troupe that traveled the wilds of territorial Arizona, presenting Gilbert and Sullivan theatricals to crowds in the dusty frontier and mining towns. During the later years of her life, in addition to burnishing the life and legend of husband Wyatt Earp, she scripted a history of make believe to hide a number of things of which she was not terribly proud. Josie, as she then called herself, saw it as an avenue toward respect, riches, social prestige and, perhaps, redemption. The Tombstone Western Heritage Museum label reads, "From the John Gilchriese estate: These Theater programs, tickets and business cards were all Wyatt & Josephine Earp's personal items. Wyatt saved everything, when he died it was all passed to John Flood, his best friend, confidante and business partner for the last 20 years of his life. Flood, in turn, passed the entire legacy to John GIlchriese upon his death. Josephine loved the theater and they attended every performance they could find. You can imagine, these programs were cherished by her." Items include a 1906 Mason Opera House program, a 1905 Belasco Theater program, and a 1906 program for Auditorium Los Angeles. Items are in preserved condition, age tanning noted. Largest item measures 4.25"W x 8"L, weight is U6.
